General

What is askthe.bot?

A platform for building two kinds of AI agents: chat agents (conversational widget) and try-on agents (photo-based product preview). Both embed onto your site with a single script tag.

Do I need a developer to install it?

No. The default install is one script tag. Most platforms have a no-code place to paste it (Shopify theme injection, Wix Custom Code, Squarespace Code Injection, etc.). See embed and try-on docs.

Is there a WordPress plugin?

Yes. The WordPress plugin adds chat to standard WordPress sites, can attach try-on to selected pages, and enables WooCommerce product-page try-on plus catalog search when WooCommerce is active.

How long until it's live?

Seconds. Save the script tag, refresh the page, the widget appears.

Try-on

What kinds of products work for try-on?

Currently strong: apparel, headwear, wigs / hair, eyewear, and jewelry. Anything where the customer wants to see "what does this look like on me?"

What kinds don't work yet?

Furniture in rooms, cars, anything that needs scene composition rather than person composition. Shoes work but are weaker than apparel.

Are customer photos used to train AI?

No. Never. See privacy & retention.

How long are photos kept?

Up to 24 hours, then auto-deleted. Same for the rendered try-on images.

Can I limit which domains can use my try-on agent?

Yes — required, in fact. Set the allowed domains on the agent's Profile tab. The widget refuses to load anywhere else.

Chat

What does the chat agent know about?

Whatever you put in Knowledge — upload PDFs, paste text, point at URLs to crawl. It also follows the instructions in Personality.

Can it take actions, not just answer?

Yes — see Tools. You can wire it to fetch live data, hand off to humans, or hit your own APIs.

Does it remember past conversations?

Per-visitor, yes. See Memory for what gets stored and for how long.

Pricing & limits

Is there a free plan?

Yes. See pricing for current quotas.

What happens when I hit my plan's limit?

You get an email and a banner in the dashboard. Existing widgets keep serving cached responses but new generations pause until you upgrade or the next billing cycle resets.

Can I have multiple agents on one plan?

Yes. Plans are per-account, not per-agent. Quotas are shared across all your agents.

Custom domains

Can the chat live on chat.mybrand.com?

Yes. Add a custom domain on the agent's Publish tab and follow the DNS instructions. Then load the embed script from your custom domain.
