Install one AskThe.bot plugin for WordPress chat, page try-on, and optional WooCommerce storefront features.

What the plugin does

The AskThe.bot WordPress plugin connects your site to an AskThe.bot assistant. On a standard WordPress site, it can show a chat assistant across your site or on selected pages. It can also attach try-on to specific pages when you provide CSS selectors for the trigger, image, and label.

If WooCommerce is active, the same plugin adds WooCommerce-specific features: product-page try-on placement, variation-aware image context, and a protected product search endpoint for public catalog data.

Download

Download the current WordPress plugin package: askthebot-wordpress-0.1.0.zip.

For automation or docs that should always point at the latest package, use askthebot.zip.

Install

  1. In WordPress Admin, go to Plugins - Add Plugin.
  2. Click Upload Plugin, choose the downloaded zip, and install it.
  3. Activate AskThe.bot.
  4. Open Settings - AskThe.bot. If WooCommerce is active, you can also open WooCommerce - AskThe.bot.

Connect

Click Connect AskThe.bot. You will sign in to AskThe.bot, then return to WordPress to choose an existing assistant or create a new one for this site.

The connection uses OAuth. You do not need to paste agent slugs or API tokens into WordPress.

Configure Chat

Plain WordPress installs default to Chat only. You can show chat on every public page, only selected pages, or everywhere except selected pages.

Leave local color and position fields blank when you want the assistant to inherit styling from the AskThe.bot dashboard. Set them in WordPress only when this site should override the dashboard defaults.

Configure Page Try-On

For non-WooCommerce pages, set Storefront features to Try-on only or Chat and try-on, select the target pages, and enter a CSS selector for the element visitors should click.

Optional image and label selectors give AskThe.bot better product context. If those are blank, the plugin falls back to page metadata where possible.

WooCommerce

WooCommerce uses the same plugin package. When WooCommerce is active, the connection flow enables chat and product-page try-on by default and can register protected catalog search with the connected assistant.

See the WooCommerce guide for product-page try-on, catalog search, and store-specific troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting

  • No settings page: open Settings - AskThe.bot, or use the Settings link on the Plugins screen.
  • Chat does not appear: confirm the plugin is enabled, an agent slug is saved, and the current page is allowed by the Chat pages setting.
  • Try-on does not open on a normal page: confirm the page is selected and the trigger CSS selector matches an element on the page.
  • Product search is unavailable: WooCommerce must be active and Product search API must be enabled in AskThe.bot settings.
